Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor are considered to be some of the biggest rivals in the history of mixed martial arts

Entering 2016, Conor McGregor was high-flying. He was literally undefeatable and had just won the featherweight belt and was set to challenge for the lightweight belt against Rafael dos Anjos.

Unfortunately, dos Anjos injured his foot, and the UFC were left in need of an urgent replacement.

In stepped Nate Diaz. ‘The Stockton Slugger”, took the fight on incredibly short notice. The fight was set for UFC 196 in March 2016.

In only the second round of the fight, Diaz earned a submission win over McGregor stunning the entire crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

A rematch was agreed upon pretty soon, and the two were set to square off on the 20th of August, 2016 at UFC 202.

A five-round slugfest saw McGregor win the fight via. a narrow majority decision to even the scoreline in their rivalry.

And, it seems like Diaz still feels that McGregor’s majority decision win didn’t even things out.

Quote tweeting ESPN MMA’s throwback post of their UFC 202 match, Diaz wrote:

“He got finished off with a choke That last fight didn’t even thangs out. He’s still far behind but it’s Gucci.”

Will Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor square off in a trilogy bout

A trilogy bout between Diaz and McGregor is what fans had been wanting to see since that night in August 2016.

Even 5 years later, the fight has the potential to live up to its billing. Although, McGregor and Diaz are a mere shadow of their mid-2010s self, they have still got a lot left to offer.

If McGregor is willing to step up to the welterweight division, a fight between him and Diaz will very much be on the cards.
