Nate Diaz still keen on Dustin Poirier match despite lingering issues

Published by

Nate Diaz has called out Dustin Poirier several times in recent weeks

Nate Diaz vs Dustin Poirier should have taken place in 2018 but The Diamond decided to undergo surgery and we never saw this fight.

The two stars have then gone on different paths. Diaz fought Jorge Masvidal for the BMF title and lost while Poirier tried to capture Lightweight gold twice and missed out both times.

The recent loss for Poirier seemed to open up the chance for this clash to take place. However, Diaz has suggested that the UFC is not keen on setting this up.

However, the Stockton star isn’t giving up on a possible fight with Poirier and claimed he was keen to fight The Diamond somewhere else.

Will Nate Diaz vs Dustin Poirier take place in the UFC?

There is one problem in all this with Diaz having just one fight left on his UFC contract. Taking on Poirier makes a lot of sense since this would close out one big chapter for both.

However, the UFC might be a little worried about this since Poirier is still in the prime of his fighting career and losing to Diaz would be a blow to him.

It would also be weird for Diaz to pick up a win on his last fight and walk away from the UFC. There is some confusion over Diaz’s contract with some reports suggesting that the UFC had extended it without the fighter even signing it.

If that is the case, then Diaz vs Poirier is more than possible. There are other options for the Stockton star too with Conor McGregor also in the running.

This could be another big trilogy, like Poirier vs McGregor, and Diaz might be keen on taking this on.

McGregor is possibly the biggest name in the UFC. He is a on a two-fight losing streak and is recovering from a broken ankle in his last outing against Poirier.
