Jorge Masvidal wants to fight Nate Diaz in a rematch
Nate Diaz prefers fighting Jorge Masvidal over Conor McGregor, claims MMA expert Ariel Helwani.
Diaz, who hasn’t fought since the loss at UFC 244 to Masvidal, reignited their rivalry again.
The 35-year-old tweeted about being the toughest guy in the UFC, and Masvidal came out to remind him of who the BMF champion was.
The UFC 244 fight was a one-off clash to decide who the BMF champion would be. Diaz lost that clash due to a doctor’s stoppage, and that seems to still hurt him.
Chael Sonnen was speaking about the possible BMF title rematch and highlighted just how much Diaz wants to fight Masvidal again.
Diaz has faced off against Conor McGregor twice, but he would prefer facing Masvidal over the Irishman.
Helwani confided that to Sonnen, and the former UFC star set the record straight:
“He’s [Helwani] saying that this Masvidal-Nate Diaz business is very real. He said, as a matter of fact, the only fight that Nate Diaz wants is Jorge Masvidal.
“If Nate Diaz had his choice between Conor part three or Masvidal part two, he’d take Masvidal.”
Diaz vs Masvidal Round 2 would be an epic clash between two of the best in the division. However, Masvidal was set for a title bout against Kamaru Usman. That plan got dropped with news coming that the BMF champion wanting to take on McGregor.
This would send the welterweight division in a tizzy but more confusion follows now. Diaz and Masvidal wanting to duke it out could see McGregor facing Usman.
The Irishman is a two-division UFC Champion and most recently was the Lightweight champion.
However, he made his UFC comeback against Donald Cerrone in the welterweight division and could be looking at gold in a third weight class.
