Neil Magny and Khamzat Chimaev have been going at it ever since ‘The Borz’ rose to prominence in the UFC
Coming off a loss against Michael Chiesa, Magny stepped up to the plate as he outworked and outlasted the tough-as-nails Geoff Neal to victory.
This was Magny’s 25th victory in his professional MMA career, and 18th victory in the UFC as a welterweight. Only the great Georges St-Pierre sits above Magny in the list of most victories in the welterweight division.
Now, Magny has been quite vocal about fighting fellow welterweight Khamzat Chimaev, ever since the Swede began his UFC surge.
However, Chimaev never really liked the idea of fighting Magny, since he felt that Magny wasn’t worthy enough to fight him.
Magny almost periodically kept taking shots at the ‘Borz‘, calling him out for a fight. All Magny got was a response from Chimaev after his loss to Michael Chiesa, trolling him blatantly.
Of late, Chimaev looks to have changed his mind, after his recent struggle with COVID. He hinted at being open to fighting ‘The Haitian Sensation’.
However, Magny has always wanted to have a crack at Chimaev, as he told Brett Okamoto after his win over Geoff Neal that he was ready to give ‘The Borz’ a bad beating.
Magny was quoted as saying:
“Yes. If he wants to come get an ass whipping this summer, let’s do it.”
Just a few days prior to Neil Magny’s fight against Geoff Neal at UFC Vegas 26, Khamzat Chimaev warned his potential opponent Magny to not lose on purpose, so that he could avoid fighting him.
Chimaev tweeted:
“@NeilMagny Don’t lose on purpose Saturday so you don’t have to fight me August. @danawhite.”
So, it looks like the matchup between Chimaev and Magny is surely on the cards right now.
But it will surely be a test of character and mettle for the ‘Borz’ since he will be returning from his ‘COVID crisis’ and taking on a seasoned veteran like Magny.
