Rose Namajunas lost her strawweight title to old rival Carla Esparza in the co-main event of UFC 274 – a lot of talking points with Namajunas’ partner Pat Barry facing the heat of the MMA community for “poor coaching advice”
Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza put on one of the, if not the most mundane display in the history of mixed martial arts. Rematching after almost 8 years, Namajunas and Esparza faced off in the co-main event of UFC 274.
In a fight that would put even Derrick Lewis vs Francis Ngannou to shame (according to commentator Joe Rogan himself), there were hardly any strikes thrown throughout the entirety of the fight. Both the fighters were hardly left with blemishes.
At one point, it apparently boiled down to a three-round scrap after complete inactivity in the first two rounds. Esparza, got the better of the champ in the takedown department, which saw her earn a split-decision win to strike strawweight gold and go 2-0 up in her rivalry with ‘Thug Rose.’
The MMA community roasted Rose Namajunas’ corner – her partner Pat Barry and coach Trevor Wittman for being laidback in between the rounds.
Fans pointed out to Barry handing Namajunas a false sense of security.
