Patricio Pitbull claims that Khabib Nurmagomedov is a great fighter but never the GOAT.
Just a month ago Khabib’s retirement was made official. The Russian had already hung up his gloves at UFC 254 after beating Justin Gaethje, because he had promised his mother that he wouldn’t be fighting without his late father by the ringside.
However, there were a lot of rumors afloat that the ‘Eagle’ might return to the UFC, since UFC President Dana White also seemed confident about changing the Dagestani’s mind. But, on the 18th of March it was announced that he was officially retired.
Khabib retired as arguably the greatest fighter of all time, let alone lightweight fighter. With no losses and an astonishing 29 wins, with 13 coming in the UFC alone, a majority of the MMA fans accepted him as the GOAT.
There were quite a few who disputed his GOAT status, and two-division Bellator Champion Patricio Freire seems to be one among them.
Speaking in an interview with John Hyon Ko, Freire acknowledged the big name that is Khabib, but however stood firm in his stance that the Dagestani man is not the GOAT.
He felt that Jon Jones ‘is the GOAT’ due to the number of title defenses the American has.
Pitbull was quoted as saying:
“He’s a great fighter, he’s a big name. That’s it…He’s 29-0, but he has only four fights for the belt, so it does not make sense, he’s not the GOAT. I think Jon Jones is the GOAT. The numbers, the numbers speak for themselves.”
Patricio Pitbull vs A.J McKee – A Bellator treat awaits
Probably the greatest showdown in the history of the Bellator might go down this year. Patricio Pitbull is all set to take on number 1 ranked featherweight contender A.J McKee in the Bellator Featherweight World Grand Prix Final.
Pitbull will be defending his title, against McKee who has never tasted defeat in his career. The American boasts a record of 17-0, with his most recent win coming against Darrion Caldwell at Bellator 253.
If Pitbull manages to defend his title, he will be deemed the Bellator GOAT!
