Paulo Costa brought up the iconic, Conor McGregor “My foot is a balloon” quote following his loss against Marvin Vettori in the main event of UFC Vegas 41
It wasn’t Paulo Costa’s night as the defiant chin of Marvin Vettori denied him a victory in the catchweight bout that headlined UFC Vegas 41.
While Vettori went about with quick combos and strikes to the head, Costa relied on heavy kicks and punches enough to even put a hole through concrete.
There were plenty of instances when Costa rocked Vettori, but the ‘Italian Dream’ held on, and ultimately emerged victorious via. unanimous decision.
Vettori scored 48-46 on all three judges’ scorecards. However, Costa was cut one point after an eye poke in the early rounds.
Following his loss, Costa referenced Conor McGregor at the post-fight press conference. Highlighting the lasting effects of his brutal leg kicks, Costa said:
“My foot is a balloon”
The line became an instant hit when McGregor, in an interview with Ariel Helwani, back in 2019, his first major interview since his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229, repeated the same at least five times.
McGregor is currently recovering from a foot injury (ankle to be precise), and is expected to be back in January 2022.
Francis Ngannou appreciates Marvin Vettori following Paulo Costa win
Marvin Vettori’s toughness didn’t go unnoticed. UFC Heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou took to Twitter to laud the durability he showed throughout the fight.
Ngannou wrote:
“Vettori is thought though. Great performance for both of them! #UFCVegas41.”
