Take a look at how Paulo Costa missing weight has put more money to Marvin Vettori’s pocket

As per the recent reports emerging out of the UFC camp, Paulo Costa will be fined 20% of his fight purse against Marvin Vettori for missing weight. Brett Okamoto of ESPN reported the news on Twitter and said:

“UFC officials confirm, Saturday’s main event between Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori has been changed to a 195-pound catchweight and Costa will forfeit 20 percent of his purse to Vettori.”

It has also been made official that the fight has been moved to catchweight, i.e. 195lbs. As a result the Brazilian fighter will have to forfeit 20% of his purse which will go to his opponent on Saturday night.

This is not a surprise as the fight was originally booked at middleweight. Any fighter who fails to hit the scale in the particular weight class is fined by UFC.

Why is Paulo Costa vs Marvin Vettori moved to catchweight?

The main event of the upcoming UFC Vegas 41 was originally supposed to be a middleweight bout between Costa and Vettori. However, Costa was way behind on his way cutting schedule. And hitting the 185lbs on the weigh-ins would have not been possible.

Costa was exactly 27lbs overweight just two days before the fight as per the revelations made by him. The Brazilian went on to challenge Vettori for a fight at 195lbs i.e. catchweight which the Italian accepted.

The UFC had no choice but to push the fight into a different weight category in order to give fans a show. For this reason the fight was moved to catchweight. Although, the fight won’t be as originally scheduled, it can offer even more explosiveness now at a different weight division.

The fans would hope to witness a brutal Knockout, now that the fight has been pushed to a heavier weight division.
