Paulo Costa vs Marvin Vettori to be moved to catchweight weight division
As per recent reports emerging out of the UFC, the middleweight bout between Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori has been moved to catchweight. This comes after Costa’s revelation of being overweight just two days before the fight has been scheduled.
As of now, the fighters have verbally agreed to fight at catchweight i.e. 195lbs but UFC has yet to confirm the change.
The fight was originally scheduled for the middleweight division i.e. 185lbs where both fighters usually fight. Both Costa and Vettori have lost their last matches to the UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. This match is equally important for both the fighters who had their unbeaten streak broken by the champion.
UFC will most likely book the fight at catchweight because they would want to put on a show for the fans. However, Costa could be fined for his unprofessional behavior and not making weight in time. The fans can expect to see an even more explosive fight if it is moved to catchweight officially.
Costa will be entering the octagon after almost a year after fighting Adesanya last year. His return has been overshadowed by his lack of professionalism and inability to make weight. The Brazilian fighter had revealed that he was 27lbs overweight just two days before the fight.
Two days are definitely not enough for someone to cut 27lbs. So, Costa put out a challenge to Vettori for fighting him at catchweight as a fight at middleweight is out of the window. The Italian did not shy away from the challenge and a fight at catchweight has been verbally agreed as noted earlier.
