Marvin Vettori vs Paulo Costa seems to be the next fight to make in the middleweight division
Marvin Vettori had a disappointing outing against Israel Adesanya in the main event of UFC 263. The ‘Italian Dream’ failed in his quest to become the middleweight champion against the king of the middleweight; losing via unanimous decision.
Following his dismal loss, Vettori called out number 2 ranked middleweight Paulo Costa. Referring to the Brazilian as the ‘drunk guy’, Vettori seemed to have only violent intentions for Borrachinha.
In an interview with BT Sport, Vettori said:
“I like to really destroy this drunk guy that can’t even stay of drinking, and it’s Borrachinha [Paulo Costa]. Either way, I’m as game as it comes, I always show up. There is no one fight, I didn’t show up. You can count on me, when there is a fight, there is a date, I’ll show up.”
Paulo Costa, recently pulled out from his fight against Jared Cannonier, which was scheduled for the 21st of August. He cited payment issue as the reason for the same.
And not to forget – Costa had also pulled out of a fight against Robert Whittaker on the 17th of April, earlier this year, due to flu.
Kelvin Gastelum was the replaced during both the ‘Costa pull-outs’.
Paulo Costa responds to Marvin Vettori
More recently, Paulo Costa took to Twitter to respond to Marvin Vettori’s callout. Posting a picture of Vettori wearing his UFC Venum shorts the wrong way, Costa tweeted:
“I could fight this Moron if he show to fight like that.”
Costa hasn’t fought since his loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 253. However, he still is ranked number 2 in the middleweight division. A fight against Vettori would definitely make sense, going by the way things stand.
