Justin Gaethje faces Tony Ferguson for the interim UFC Lightweight title on 9 May
Justin Gaethje has some extra help ahead of his clash against Tony Ferguson on 9 May.
The fight was called off once after UFC 249 was cancelled. However, Dana White pulled out all the stops to confirm that the 9 May event will take place.
Ferguson was to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC Lightweight title but that changed as the Russian is stuck in his home country.
Ali Abdelaziz is the manager for both Gaethje and Khabib and spoke to Brett Okamoto about the fight.
The Egyptian is never afraid to share his thoughts and he believed Gaethje could cause a lot of problems to Ferguson:
“I want to see how Tony takes damage. Justin Gaethje doesn’t hit you like Kevin Lee, doesn’t hit you like [Anthony] Pettis. He doesn’t hit like anybody.
“When Justin Gaethje hit you, then people normally go to sleep. This is my prediction, I want to know how hard he can take Justin’s hits. I want to know how is his recovery.”
Gaethje a force to be reckoned with
Abdelaziz was pointing to the fact that Gaethje has won his last three bouts via KO. The 31-year-old also holds a title in his previous promotion and Abdelaziz believed his client is one of the best fighters in the Octagon:
“He is fighting a guy who is the best technical brawler we’ve ever seen. Justin Gaethje, hands down, the best technical brawler.”
Gaethje’s wrestling heritage was also brought up by his agent:
“We have to remind everybody that this man is an all-American division one, also a great wrestler.”
Abdelaziz also spoke about the great Eddie Bravo, Ferguson’s coach, and how much respect he had for the legendary MMA trainer.
However, the Egyptian believed this match would be a great one for the fans and was eagerly waiting for it to take place.
