Petr Yan responds to Dustin Poirier picking him as the best boxer in the UFC while calling out Conor McGregor
Dustin Poirier was recently a guest on the MMA Hour podcast with Ariel Helwani, where he picked Petr Yan as the best boxer in the UFC. The Diamond was all praise for Yan and his former opponent Max Holloway. When asked to pick the best boxer in the UFC, Poirier said:
“I think Petr Yan, I really do. Just the way he moves, the way he doesn’t waste a lot of movements. His positioning is always crisp, his footwork, he doesn’t load up when he throws clean power shots. Good accuracy works the body well, goes up, goes down.”
The Diamond has put Yan above the rest of the fighters in the UFC, calling him the best boxer. He was also seen praising Holloway for his fight against Yair Rodriguez. Many people believe Holloway is the best boxer in the UFC, however, Poirier doesn’t fall on the same page.
Conor McGregor and Yan had a recent back and forth about being the best boxer in the UFC. Both fighters seemed to have made a case for themselves and even agreed for a spar sometime around. Upon seeing Poirier backing him as the best boxer, Yan called out the Notorious One and said:
“Obviously @DustinPoirier understands boxing better than @TheNotoriousMMA”
The Russian is certainly confident in his abilities and believes he is a better boxer than McGregor. The two have shared heated words for each other recently and it will be interesting to see if they decide to box. However, it is not to be expected anytime soon as the Irishman is still recovering from his injury.
