Top-ranked bantamweight Petr Yan ended up losing to Sean O’Malley in a rather controversial way at UFC 280 – goes on to hit out at the judges
Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley went to war at UFC 280. The three-round fight saw O’Malley ending up with a victory by means of a rather controversial split decision.
Despite having taken O’Malley down six times as opposed to ‘Suga’s zero, Yan just couldn’t do enough to convince the judges ringside.
Even more surprising is the fact that Yan was a -800 favourite just as the result was about to be announced. Commentators, and fighters, notably Henry Cejudo and Jorge Masvidal fumed at the decision.
Cejudo tweeted:
“Worst robbery I’m UFC history, I hope our sport doesn’t become boxing @danawhite.”
Masvidal chimed in:
“Judges in Abu Dhabi are fucking careers up #ufc280“
A while later came Yan’s tweet:
The Russian made it loud and clear: “F*** the judges.”
Petr Yan’s Tweet, “F*** the judges,” was met with a plethora of support from his fans.
Calling him the best Bantamweight on the roster, fans wanted to see ‘No Mercy’ with his head up.
Here are some of the reactions:
A fan came up with Dana White’s famous quote: “Never leave it in the hands of the judges.”
There were a few tweets scattered, endorsing O’Malley as well:
Yan has now suffered back-to-back losses. An illegal knee back in early 2021 has put the brakes on what was turning out to be a remarkable career. The Russian will now have to work his way back to get to a title shot.
As for O’Malley, one more win might probably land him a title shot.
