Petr Yan has hit back at Sean O’Malley after the latter called him out for a fight as he waits for his rematch against Aljamain Sterling.
Petr Yan had a night to forget at UFC 259. He lost his bantamweight championship in a rather bizarre way, after illegally kneeing Aljamain Sterling.
What then followed was a nasty verbal spat between the two bantamweights. A rematch has been proposed and is expected to take place some time, with the date yet to be announced.
In the wake of this, bantamweight prospect Sean O’Malley has started a Twitter war with the Yan, after calling him out for a fight in July.
Sugar Sean tweeted:
“Hey @PetrYanUFC what are you doing in July brotha? Wana beat me up while you wait for your rematch?”
Sugar Sean might be an exciting talent, but he sure doesn’t have the credentials to call out a top-ranked fighter like Petr Yan. The 26-year old hasn’t even broken into the top 15 of the bantamweight rankings.
Petr Yan decided to give it back, as he asked ‘Shaun’ if he was high. It is to be noted that Sugar Sean has been an active advocate for marijuana and has regularly been seen smoking pot.
“Are you high again Shaun?”
While Yan waits for his rematch, Sugar Sean is slowly climbing up the ranks
Yan will be having only one thing in mind – getting back the bantamweight title. He will be looking forward to going ahead with the same game plan, as he had clearly outscored Sterling, when he was disqualified.
As for O’Malley, he has come back after a disappointing loss at the hands of Marlon Vera. ‘Sugar’ got the better of hard-as-nails as Thomas Almeida with a devastating KO, at the recently concluded UFC 260.
Given the current state, Sugar Sean can only dream of fighting Petr Yan in July!
