Aljamain Sterling vs Petr Yan is the fight to make for the Bantamweight title but UFC 256 might not be on
The UFC is left with a huge problem as their main event for UFC 256 is off. Kamaru Usman vs Gilbert Burns was the clash to be made with Usman defending his Welterweight title.
However, reports suggest that the champion needs more time to prepare and isn’t going to fight in December.
That has put a spanner in the works for the UFC as this was going to be a blockbuster event. However, it also has opened the door for other clashes to take place with Aljamain Sterling calling out Petr Yan.
The Funk Master should face Yan in the future but the UFC are reluctant to make that fight. Sterling added that he was open to fighting on 12 December and tagged Yan, Dana White and Mick Maynard too.
However, the champion claimed that White had other plans for UFC 256 and added that he wasn’t trying to squirm out of the clash:
Sterling has been excellent over the past two years and is one a five-fight win streak. The Funk Master is 19-3 in his UFC career and is ranked #2 in the Bantamweight division too.
However, White has been reluctant to set up the fight for some reason. Many have called out the UFC for not making this clash official with Yan also being open to fighting the 31-year-old Sterling.
Yan picked up the vacant Bantamweight title after defeating Jose Aldo in a one-sided fight. The Russian got Aldo all bloodied up at UFC 251 and has an impressed MMA record of 15 wins and one loss.
Sterling vs Yan should be a cracker of a fight, and hopefully, White and the UFC make it official soon.
