Petr Yan will be short of cornermen as he looks to win the UFC Bantamweight title at UFC 273
UFC 273 has some big fights on the card and one of them features former Bantamweight Champion Petr Yan.
The Russian will get a chance to reclaim the undisputed title from Aljamain Sterling. However, there seems to be a problem for Yan as his cornermen will not be at the event.
Fight Scout claimed that Yan’s cornermen couldn’t get visas to fly to the UFC event. This leaves Yan with a bit of a problem but the Russian seems to have an answer for that.
Yan has called on Henry Cejudo to take up the role. Cejudo, who is a former two-division UFC Champion, retired from the sport in 2020.
However, he has kept his links with the company and has often spoken about winning a third title in the UFC as well.
Yan asked Cejudo what his plans were for April, and it is to be seen what happens next.
Cejudo is also an Olympic Gold Medalist and he seems to be teaching a lot of stars his tricks. Jon Jones, who is keen to win the UFC Heavyweight title, is also training with Triple C.
Cejudo also recently helped Deiveson Figueiredo reclaim the UFC Flyweight title. The Brazilian defeated Brandon Moreno in their trilogy, and Cejudo was quick to celebrate the victory.
This request from Yan comes as a bit of a surprise given that the Russian and Cejudo have been in a war of words on social media.
Yan, for his part, was winning his fight with Sterling at UFC 259. However, an illegal knee from Yan saw Sterling get crowned champion after the American could not continue.
Yan then won the interim title at UFC 267 and will now be keen on reclaiming his gold. It is to be seen if Cejudo actually makes the event or not.
