Phil Daru becomes the latest to give his prediction for the trilogy fight between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor
The trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier is a reality now. July 10th, 2021 has been confirmed as the date for the fight.
And both fighters are looking to settle scores as they have one win against each other in the past. The Irishman won at UFC 178 before Poirier securing a massive round 2 TKO win at UFC 257.
Since then, the prospect of their biggest UFC payday till date has fastened the process of having a third fight in place.
And as with any big fights, fellow MMA personalities are weighing in with their prediction for what will go down.
And Phil Daru, who is Poirier’s conditioning coach, became the latest to give his two cents on the fight.
Daru was talking to The Schmo and Helen Yee on their latest podcast and predicted a win for Poirier by way of submission despite Conor making adjustments and being better prepared.
“I feel like he’s gonna submit him, this time. I think Conor is definitely gonna make some changes, definitely gonna look out for the calf kicks and change his stance a little bit there. But I think that at the end of the day, Conor just is gonna set that pace, drag him to that deep water, and ultimately get to that submission.”
If he does have to submit Conor, he would have to muster only his 2nd win via submission in UFC since 2013. His last submission win the promotion came against Anthony Pettis at UFC Fight Night 120.
But it seems that it is not a bad tactic to pursue against the Irishman. Before his loss to Poirier, all 4 of his professional MMA losses came via submission.
It remains to be seen what approach both fighters take against each other but if Daru’s prediction comes true, it is clear that Poirier will have the shot at the belt next.
