Robert Whittaker was impressive on his UFC return and defeated Darren Till at Fight Island
Robert Whittaker vs Darren Till was the main event of the final card on UFC Fight Island.
This was Whittaker’s return fight in the UFC after losing his Middleweight title to Israel Adesanya a while back.
Whittaker had spoken about finding a spark to make his MMA return and he put up a good show against the unorthodox Till.
The former champion got the better of Till in the latter rounds but the British star also got a few hits in. Whittaker shared a photo of how much his face was hit by Till and there was a lot of bruising all around.
Whittaker and Till both ended up bleeding the clash too, but it seems neither fighter sustained serious injuries.
The pair also shared a lot of respect for each other during and after the clash, but this was an important win for Whittaker’s career.
The 29-year-old is still in his prime and he could be in the running for a title shot too. Whittaker didn’t get a rematch after losing the title to Adesanya and this win should see him back in the picture for the gold.
However, Whittaker has to wait to see how another top clash goes. Adesanya is to defend the title against Paulo Costa and the pair should meet pretty soon.
Costa and Adesanya are unbeaten in their MMA careers, and they have been taking shots at each other on social media.
This should be one of the best fights of the year too and Whittaker could get a shot at facing the winner from this.
The 29-year-old has an MMA record of 21 wins and five losses. However, Whittaker only has one loss from his last 11 fights and that came at the hands of Adesanya.
