Leon Edwards used an eye poke on Belal Muhammad and that saw the American pick up a bad looking injury

There was a lot riding on the latest UFC Fight Night main event as Leon Edwards took on Belal Muhammad.

This was the first fight for Edwards in close to 600 days while Muhammad was trying to move into the top five of the Welterweight division and possibly get a title shot too.

Edwards was the favourite ahead of the clash and he showed his class early on. He rocked Muhammad with a kick to the head but the American kept on fighting.

However, things took a nasty turn just 18 seconds into the second. Edwards had been warned about an eye poke on Muhammad in the first round and the British star did the same in the second.

This one was a much worse eye poke and Muhammad immediately screamed and went down. Muhammad was screaming in agony and the commentators were concerned seeing how red his right eye had become.

Some blood was also coming out of it and the doctor had to tend to the American. Dana White was one of the first to share the image of the eye poke and it didn’t look good one bit:

More images were shared later and the extent of the damage could be seen in them.

Belal Muhammad vs Leon Edwards ends in a no contest due to eye poke and injury

Herb Dean, the referee, ended the fight as a no contest, which was a first for both stars. Muhammad was clearly broken after the decision as he wanted to do well in his first main event, but health comes first.

There is no confirmation of the severity of his eye injury and hopefully, he will be back in action soon.

Edwards, for his part, was also keen on getting back in the Welterweight title scene. He was apologetic to Muhammad after the eye poke and did the same during the post-fight interviews too:

It will be interesting to see who Edwards will fight next. However, the main concern right now is the health of Muhammad.
