Rose Namajunas beat Jessica Andrade but her face was blown up she picked up an eye injury and more
Jessica Andrade vs Rose Namajunas was the second fight on the main card at UFC 251 and one star picked up a serious-looking eye injury.
This was the second meeting between the Strawweights. Andrade had won the first meeting but Namajunas won the first two rounds and survived an onslaught in the third to move to 9-4 in her MMA career.
The 28-year-old is being touted to fight Zhang Weili for the title next. However, in the post-fight interviews, she spoke about first ensuring her injuries were alright and then possibly fighting again.
Namajunas was hit several times in the face during the third round, and the UFC fighter had to deal with an eye injury and a lot of bleeding.
Namajunas also was bleeding a bit from the nose and the area around the fighter’s eye had blown up and gone black come the end of the clash.
This isn’t the first time such injuries have taken place in the Octagon. Joanna Jedrzejczyk picked up several injuries like this against Weili a few months back too.
The corner of Andrade was also questioned during this clash. While everyone suggested that Namajunas had won the first two rounds, Andrade’s corner said that the Brazilian had won the rounds.
That would have affected her game plan in the final round. Although she landed some heavy hits, it just wasn’t enough.
Some suggested that Andrade should have been told the truth as she could have tried for a finish in the third round.
Nevertheless, both stars put up a tremendous show and it was an incredible fight. Namajunas got the win, but she did get a lot of hits on the face.
Hopefully, she isn’t out for long and can try for the title soon.
