Former UFC Women’s Strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will get a chance to reclaim her title against Zhang Weili at UFC 248.
The 32-year-old has held the title once before and had five successful defences but lost the crown to Rose Namanujas at UFC 217.
That was Jedrzejczyk’s first loss in her MMA career and she has lost a couple of other fights since. The Polish star also lost a fight for the vacant Women’s Flyweight title to Valentina Shevchenko but returned to the Strawweight division recently.
Jedrzejczyk was asked about her mental preparations for the fight and she seems ready for the clash:
“Mentally and physically I am more than ready. The hard work is done so many weeks before the fight night.”
The challenger highlighted the crazy amount of work she put in ahead of the fight too:
“I put on 13 training sessions per week for the past eight weeks down in Florida at American Top Team. Been working on so many different skills, been sharpening my throws.”
Jedrzejczyk also spoke about the champion and claimed she had risen to the top and earns the belt.
However, the challenger went on to say that she was ready to take the crown and show who the “queen” is.
Jedrzejczyk highlighted that she defended the title five times and said that the current champion was a “girl”, however, she had respect for Zhang.
The Chinese star is on an incredible run with 20 consecutive victories across various promotions. She only lost one fight in her career and beat Jessica Andrade to win the Strawweight title.
Zhang has won all four of her fights since coming in the UFC and it will be interesting to see how UFC 248 goes for Jedrzejczyk.
