Former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos might be the backup for the crucial trilogy bout between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier at UFC 264
The UFC had been planning to have a backup lined up for the McGregor-Poirier trilogy for quite a long time.
However, the fighters have been hale and healthy, and knock on wood, there is not a chance that the pair wouldn’t faceoff, come this weekend.
The latest development is that former UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos is being expected to be the backup fighter for the high-voltage trilogy bout at UFC 264.
The news was first reported by Damon Martin of MMA Fighting who stated that Dos Anjos was spotted at a hotel in Las Vegas cutting weight. However, Martin claimed that no official announcement has been made about the same.
“Rafael Dos Anjos is in Las Vegas this week and he was seen at the fighter hotel cutting weight with his trainers. UFC never made any official announcement about a backup for McGregor vs. Poirier 3 but take that for what you will…”
