Robert Whittaker takes on Jared Cannonier at UFC 254
Robert ‘The Reaper’ Whittaker takes on Jared Cannonier at UFC 254 with huge implications stemming from the fight.
This would be Whittaker’s second fight since losing his belt to Israel Adesanya. The Reaper last defeated Darren Till and is keen on reclaiming gold in the Middleweight division.
However, he faces a tough challenge in Jared Cannonier. The American is undefeated since moving to the Middleweight division and a win for him could lead to a title shot as well.
With so much riding on the line, it is expected that both stars have some big game plans up their sleeves.
Whittaker and Cannonier can both pack a punch and the Australian was speaking to the Schmo before this UFC 254 clash.
The Schmo asked Whittaker what his plans were to stop Cannonier, but the Reaper just sent out a simple message:
“I am gonna try and hit him and not get hit. Very simple game plan.”
That does seem to be a simple plan but Whittaker might be keeping something up his sleeve too.
Unsure about end of year fight
The Schmo also touched upon if Whittaker was keen on fighting again later in the year. A win over Cannonier could lead to a title shot against Adesanya but the Reaper wasn’t sure about it.
Whittaker loves to spend Christmas with his family and that is very important for him. He didn’t turn the potential fight down completely but added he would think about it:
“We will take about that later. I am not going to commit to anything right now. Christmas is very important to me, got a lot of kids that want Christmas to be special.”
The Reaper also spoke about how his children were learning MMA while he predicted a quick fight against Cannonier too.
