Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya will be facing off in a middleweight title fight soon
It looks like Robert Whittaker vs Israel Adesanya rematch is not far away. A rematch between the two was agreed upon in the aftermath of UFC 263.
Following his win over Marvin Vettori, Adesanya called out Whittaker for a rematch, to which Whittaker agreed on Twitter.
However, the date for the fight could never be finalized. But, Whittaker’s latest tweet looks to have confirmed the timeline of the fight.
Taking to Twitter, Whittaker posted a photo of himself after a win, with the caption: “January.”
The UFC is yet to roll out a proper calendar for the year 2022. Provided the restrictions are eased, the fight might probably take place in New Zealand, since Izzy wanted the fight to be held in his own backyard.
Robert Whittaker was knocked out by Israel Adesanya at UFC 243
The last time Whittaker and Adesanya faced off, was UFC 243 in October 2019. Adesanya was the interim middleweight champion, while ‘The Reaper’ was the middleweight champ.
In only the second round of the fight, Adesanya knocked Whittaker out to become the undisputed middleweight champion.
Since then, Adesanya has defended his middleweight title three times, notably against the dangerous Paulo Costa.
Whittaker, on the other hand, showed remarkable bouncebackability, beating Darren Till, Jared Cannonier and Kelvin Gastelum – all via. unanimous decision, to once again earn his right to challenge for the title.
