Israel Adesanya made light work of Marvin Vettori in the main event of UFC 263 to successfully retain his middleweight title for the third time.

Following his victory, Adesanya called out number 1 ranked middleweight contender Robert Whittaker at the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

Adesanya said:

“My arch nemesis…What’s his name? Whittaker, Bobby Knuckles…I don’t know what the f*ck is gonna happen with this whole COVID sh*t. We need to run that back in Auckland. We need to run that back in my territory this time. I’ll tell you when it is. You don’t get to decide, I get to decide.”

The pair had already fought once at UFC 243 in Melbourne. Adesanya came up trumps with a second-round KO, to win the middleweight title that night.

Following Adesanya’s post-fight callout, Whittaker took to Twitter to respond to the Nigerian. He wrote:

“Rest up, see you soon.”

The fight surely is inevitable, and might cause someone like Adesanya a lot of trouble. Whittaker is someone who keeps pressurizing his opponent. A lethal striker, ‘The Reaper’ is known for his powerful counter-punching, second to only Adesanya.

However, if there is someone who can pose a real threat to Adesanya’s reign, it has to be ‘Bobby Knuckles’ Robert Whittaker.
