Rose Namajunas spends an inordinate amount of time in ice baths to recover after training, ahead of her fight against Zhang Weili at UFC 261.

Thug Rose cemented her position as the number one ranked women’s strawweight after she exacted revenge against Jessica Andrade at UFC 251. She had lost to Andrade a year before, after the Brazilian executed a massive body slam at UFC 237.

Now, she is all set to take on the champion from China, Zhang Weili in the co-main event of UFC 261. This is a good chance for the American to become the strawweight champion for the second time.

In the recent vlog series released by the UFC, for UFC 261, Thug Rose can be seen taking an open-air ice bath with her husband keeping track of the time.

Her husband Pat Barry can be seen explaining how Thug Rose spends a ridiculous ten minutes inside the ice bath, while people usually don’t sit in there for more than 3 minutes.

He also goes on to say how much mental strength one can obtain by sitting in a frozen tub without moving.

Barry can be seen saying:

“You know a lot of people say that you don’t get physical benefits from an ice bath after 3 minutes. But she goes on for 10-11 minutes at times. Doing the ice bath for just the physical recovery, but it’s the mental strength that you get from sitting yourself in a frozen tub without moving.”

Namajunas then explains her experience inside the ice-bath:

Number 2 ranked Joanna is determined to get hold of the strawweight championship again. She has a history of losing to both Zhang Weili and Rose Namajunas.

She lost twice to Namajunas – the first time she lost, she lost her strawweight title; it was then followed by an immediate rematch, which she lost as well.

And, against Zhang Weili, she lost via. split decision at UFC 248, while challenging for the strawweight title.

Despite all this, Joanna has managed to stay afloat at the top of the strawweight division rankings, and now she looks to get the title back.

In a recent interview with MMA fighting, she revealed her future fight ambitions. She was quoted as saying:

“I want to get the winner of this fight. I won’t stop. That’s the thing if I was losing fights by knockout or if I was losing the fights on points and the difference was big but it’s not. I always put on a show and the fights are very close so I want to keep on going.” [via MMA Fighting]
