Jorge Masvidal has been pictured with several AEW stars in the past and Sammy Guevara didn’t enjoy the UFC 261 main event
Many WWE and AEW stars keep and eye on the UFC and Sammy Guevara is no different. The 27-year-old is one of the biggest names in the promotion but is also a huge fan of MMA.
He has been at several shows in the past and was present to see UFC 261. This was the first UFC event with a full crowd since the coronavirus pandemic hit the USA and suffice to say it was quite a show.
All the fights had huge talking points with the three title bouts all having some spectacular endings too. Guevara was rooting for Jorge Masvidal as Gamebred tried to take the belt away from Kamaru Usman. However, things didn’t go as planned and Masvidal was viciously knocked out by his rival.
Guevara was speaking to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful and UFC 261 was brought up, something that the AEW star didn’t want:
“Why you gotta remind me? The night was going so great.”
However, Guevara did bring up the crowd before confirming how upset he was with Masvidal’s loss:
“What a night to be back in front of a full crowd. There was no boring fights. It was insanity.
“For my boy Masvidal, to be done like that, it was very depressing to watch.”
Guevara also claimed that he was with Dan Lambert in the ATT suite and they predicted a win for Masvidal. However both ended up crying when the fight was done.
The AEW star also spoke about the previous fight between Masvidal and Usman. He brought up how a crowd would have booed Usman for the tactics he used in them:
“Usman’s style, imagine if he would have done what he did last year to against Masvidal the first time, he would have been booed out of the building.”
While Usman used a lot of clenching and foot stomps to win at UFC 251, Guevara did praise the champion for performing so well a few months later.
The AEW star also spoke about Marko Stunt backing Masvidal but gave props to the champion:
“But it’s like, you can’t not respect the guy now. I was with Marko [Stunt], Marko was so upset too, we were both going for Masvidal but it’s like ‘Hey you got beat fair and square, what can you say?’”
