Sean O’Malley cannot separate Khabib Nurmagomedov and UFC legend in naming GOAT

Khabib Nurmagomedov, Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones and another surprise name all are in the running for the MMA GOAT according to Sean O’Malley

Sean O’Malley will be back in action at UFC 260 as he takes on Thomas Almeida. This will be Sugar’s first fight since his loss to Marlon Vera at UFC 252.

That was also his first loss in MMA and the American will be keen on getting back on the winning trail. O’Malley was speaking to Helen Yee as he was congratulated on becoming a father. The 26-year-old and his girlfriend, Danya, welcomed their daughter, Elena in late 2020.

While Sugar claimed that his daughter had gone on her mother and was calm, he believed his son could have his genes, when he would be born.

Nevertheless, O’Malley also brought up how he was preparing for his next fight. He seemed to be more respectful of his opponent and even joked that people shouldn’t bet on him after his loss to Vera.

O’Malley is still one of the biggest names in the UFC and was asked on who the GOAT was. The American first named Georges St-Pierre but then added two more current fighters:

“GSP was the guy. I never watched UFC growing up ever. The fight I remember of GSP was Jonny Hendricks and I thought Hendricks won that fight.

“I don’t remember how long ago that was. Everyone said ‘Dude, GSP’s the GOAT’, so maybe he is.

“But you gotta go with Jon Jones right now. I think Jon Jones or Khabib [Nurmagomedov] one of those two.”

Khabib, of course, retired from the UFC a few months back while Jones never lost a fight as the UFC Lightweight champion.

Sean O’Malley brings up Henry Cejudo in GOAT debate

Another name that O’Malley brought up was Henry Cejudo. Cejudo was an Olympic Gold Medallist and two division UFC Champion before he called his time in the promotion.

“Henry [Cejudo]. You could even say Henry. Why would he retire when he is in his prime at the top. Pound for pound up there, I think Jones or Khabib, right now.”

O’Malley believed that Cejudo would return in the future and that is something that Triple C also brought up recently.

It is to be seen if Triple C does make a return but it is tough to name one GOAT. MMA has changed a lot over the last decade or so and there are some real legends in the sport.

Khabib and Jones are certainly in the debate while GSP will always be the benchmark for MMA greats.
