The UFC is reportedly working on a middleweight fight between Sean Strickland and Alex Pereira for UFC 277
The former two-division kickboxing world champion and world number one Alex Pereira has his next assignment set against Sean Strickland as per multiple reports.
The fight was first confirmed by ESPN reporters. Strickland is on a six-fight win streak and five after returning to the middleweight division. He won his last bout against Jack Hermansson.
Since signing with the UFC, Pereira has picked up a flying knee knockout win over Andreas Michailidis at UFC 268 and a unanimous decision win over Bruno Silva at UFC Vegas 50 earlier this month.
This is an extremely fan friendly fight given the action both fighters bring. As for Alex a win against a prominent name and top-ranked Strickland will inch his closer to his desired third fight against champion Adesanya, this time under mixed martial arts rules.
It is well established by now that UFC middleweight title contenders Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa can’t stand the sight of each other. The duo take gibes at each other as soon as an opportunity presents itself.
Responding to a tweet by the Brazilian, ‘Tarzan’ demolished his adversary by mocking his loss against the champion Israel Adesanya back in 2020.
Strickland replied to Costa’s question ‘Where is the fag?’ by saying, “In all fairness to Costa I wouldn’t call him gay, it was more of a forceful sexual assault by Style bender , I’m just happy he didn’t decide to penetrate you…. Jokes aside man you’re hard to take seriously. Mma to professional clown, definitely a step up for you…”
It was also reported by Strickland that the UFC is not to keen on setting up this match-up, even as their rivalry continues to grow by the day.
