Leon Edwards has been out of action for a year and he isn’t keen on fighting Stephen Thompson
Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson has called out Leon Edwards after the British star made some comments.
Edwards is on an eight-fight win streak in the UFC but hasn’t been in action for over a year. The 29-year-old was hurt the most during the Coronavirus pandemic as he was stuck in London. Edwards was to fight Tyron Woodley but Gilbert Burns replace the British star.
Edwards’ loss was Burns’ gain as he not only demolished Woodley but also got a crack at Kamaru Usman’s title.
Usman vs Burns will take place in the future but Edwards hasn’t found a rival yet. Rocky recently claimed that he wasn’t keen on facing Thompson since Wonderboy was going down.
Edwards also had some words for Khamzat Chimaev and wanted the Swede to beat someone with a ranking.
However, Wonderboy wasn’t pleased with Edwards’ comments and called him out for a fight.
Wonderboy claimed this would be a nice tune-up fight for his rival and this could get people to remember Edwards:
While Rocky has claimed he deserves a shot at Usman, things aren’t that easy for him. He has been out of action for a year, which wasn’t his fault, but he has fallen out of favour by the UFC it seems.
A fight against Wonderboy would be a proper tune-up clash, given that the American has lost three of his last five fights.
However, Thompson cannot be taken lightly as he defeated the impressive Vicente Luque in his previous fight.
Edwards vs Thompson should be a clash that the UFC can book. While Edwards is looking for a bigger name, he could get back into the title scene with a win over Wonderboy.
