Kamaru Usman has changed his mind on a rematch with Jorge Masvidal and Stephen Thompson is ready to move in

Kamaru Usman seems to have backed down from a rematch against Jorge Masvidal and that has opened the doors for other people.

The UFC Welterweight Champion first called out Masvidal after defeating Gilbert Burns. This was going to be a rematch and Usman wanted Masvidal to have a full fight camp as the earlier one had just six days for Gamebred to prepare.

Masvidal also was talking the talk and wanted the rematch but that seems to have been washed away.

Masvidal, for his part, wasn’t all that pleased and decided to hit out at his rival. Gamebred brought up how Usman had cold feet despite Masvidal agreeing to the fight initially:

“That’s what I thought. Full camp he says nope! Got cold feet when you heard we said yes”

Stephen Thompson wants a shot at Kamaru Usman

While this fight is out of the reckoning, it seems, Usman was open to other stars taking up the clash.

He shared a photo of several other challengers but that had one name missing from the list:

Stephen Thompson is one of the most loved and popular fighters in the UFC. His character is incredible and he is called the Nicest Mother F***** in the promotion.

Thompson was quick to post that he wanted a shot at the gold too:

Thompson is on a two fight win streak and is coming off a great win over Geoff Neal. Wonderboy has a record of 16 wins, four losses and one draw.

However, he does have a huge win over Masvidal from UFC 217. Thompson was also speaking about him trying to win the title this year and he could get a title shot if he wins his next fight.

The 38-year-old has a huge following online and this call-out could amplify his push for a title shot. The Welterweight division does have a lot of top talent such as Colby Covington and Leon Edwards, and it will be interesting to see who is Usman’s next rival.
