Conor McGregor provided his reaction to the big news of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s retirement from the UFC
Khabib Nurmagomedov officially retired from the UFC and this made a lot of news. Dana White confirmed this on social media and even Khabib posted an emotional update and thanked the UFC president.
The Eagle ended his career on 29-0 and as the UFC Lightweight champion. While the UFC plans for his successor with a huge fight between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira, many have shared their thoughts Khabib retiring.
Most of the UFC stars have praised Khabib and even his rivals have something good to say about him, almost.
Conor McGregor remains one of Khabib’s most fierce rivals and their battle at UFC 229 will go down as one of the biggest fights ever.
The pair bickered a lot before the fight and this clash also saw both stars hit out at some of the coaching staff outside the Octagon.
Khabib might have beaten McGregor, but both were handed suspensions for their part in the brawl.
Nevertheless, McGregor posted an old photo of Khabib and a caption to go along with it:
“Happy retirement kid, smell ya later. Never forget who came in the game and made ye. Straight from my big Irish balls. Remember folks, if you hate cutting weight so much, all you have to do is move up a division.
“God bless.”
This was a bit of a dig at Khabib but at least McGregor didn’t go all crazy Conor and trash the Russian completely.
Replacing Khabib will be a problem but the Russian goes out with an immaculate career. His 29-0 record might never be achieved in the UFC.
Khabib, however, isn’t done with MMA as a whole. He is training other fighters, has his own promotion and also helping some of his friends.
Khabib was in the corner of Islam Makhachev when he fought Drew Dober. It was a great outing for Makhachev as Khabib helped him dominate Dober.
Many claim that Makhachev is the next in line to Khabib’s throne. The Russian might not be fighting for the title now but he could be there in a year.
