Khabib Nurmagomedov dismissed a return to competitive grappling in a promotional match for Eagle Fighting Championship.
Khabib Nurmagomedov On a Potential Return
The former UFC lightweight champion said he has moved on from fighting and wouldn’t return to promote Eagle Fighting Championship, his new promotion.
Khabib Nurmagomedov was questioned on his chances of a return in a potential grappling match at EFC 36. The Russian replied:
-Nurmagomedov after EFC 36“Not interested at all. Why do I need to grapple someone? I’m tired of, as they say, diving for sweaty legs. We grapple in training. Shamil knows, Khasbulaev knows. But to fight in an arena to prove… I don’t even know what to prove.” (Transcription courtesy: RT Sport MMA)
In December 2020, Khabib Nurmagomedov bought Gorilla Fighting Championship (GFC), a Russian MMA promotion, and later renamed it as Eagle Fighting Championship.
Khabib Nurmagomedov also has ruled out becoming a professional coach.

‘The Eagle’ announced his retirement from MMA in October 2020. In the aftermath of his retirement, he has been spotted as a training partner for cousins and other teammates.
Nurmagomedov is one of the greatest 155lbs fighters in the history of MMA . His run in MMA was unmatched and became a powerhouse with masterful performances inside the Octagon.
The Russian has also beaten the likes of Conor Mcgregor, Justin Gaethje in his undefeated career. With 29 wins and no losses, he retired with an undefeated record. He is widely regarded as the greatest fighter in MMA history. A two-time Combat Sambo World Champion, Nurmagomedov has a background in the disciplines of sambo, judo and wrestling.
His return to the sport seems unlikely anytime soon, but who’s to know what is expected in the future ahead for ‘The Eagle.’
