TJ Dillashaw provided an injury update following his hard-fought win over Cory Sandhagen at UFC Vegas 32

Former two-time bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw earned a narrow split-decision over rising-bantamweight Cory Sandhagen in the main event of UFC Vegas 32.

Although his win seemed controversial to many, Dillashaw didn’t mind since he was returning to the Octagon after two and a half years (following a drug ban).

Deep gash just above TJ Dillashaw’s right eye

The tough-as-nails Dillashaw was injured in the first and second round of the fight. Despite dominating the first round, Dillashaw injured his knee in the first round, which clearly debilitated his movement.

In the second round, ‘Lieutenant Dan’ suffered a nasty gash above his right eye, after some repeated blows from Sandhagen to his face.

Following his win, Dillashaw called out Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling, who will be rematching for the bantamweight title later this year.

Earlier today, Dillashaw took to Instagram to provide an update regarding his injury at UFC Vegas 32. Judging by his post, the cut above his right eye didn’t cause him much trouble. It was the knee injury in the first round, that has got him needing surgery.

Dillashaw explained that he had an MRI which had revealed that he suffered a displaced Bucket Handle tear of the Lateral Meniscus and a Lateral Collateral Ligament.

Here is what Dillashaw’s post read:

“No place like home, this right here brings me all the joy I need. #daddyshome. Went in for a mri today, found out that I suffered a displaced Bucket Handle tear of the Lateral Meniscus and a Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL) rupture at the end of the first round landing ground and pound while being lazy in a compromised position. The good news is that these tears are repairable and will have a very speedy recovery. Going in for surgery in the next couple days. Loved being in the cage even though I had to push through some adversities to grit out the win. Thank you for the support, it’s belt season now.”
