Tony Ferguson suffered some serious looking injuries against Justin Gaethje at UFC 249

UFC Lightweight star Tony Ferguson uploaded a short clip on social media and claimed he didn’t need surgery after the beating at UFC 249 against Justin Gaethje.

Ferguson came into the fight as the slight favourite but was taken to school by Gaethje. El Cucuy was dominated throughout the match and it was a surprise it went to five rounds.

The referee had to call off the fight after Ferguson got a little wobbly, and his face was absolutely destroyed.

El Cucuy had two swollen eyes, lots of cuts on the face and also took a few shots to the chin. Ferguson posted a video of him dancing in the hospital after the fight, and now shared another update.

It was a short and simple video where he said he was recovering, but the main focus was on “No Surgery”:

Ferguson might be one of the toughest fighters out there, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he didn’t opt for surgery.

He has some time on his hands to recover from this result, and it will be interesting to see what is next for him.

El Cucuy was to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the Lightweight title at UFC 249. However, the UFC Gods pulled the switch as Khabib is still stuck in Russia.

Gaethje was his replacement on short notice and the match was for the interim title. Ferguson has never held the Lightweight crown, despite winning the interim one, and it seems unlikely he will get a shot at it again.

Gaethje vs Khabib is the logical fight ahead. Dana White has also confirmed that the fight for the undisputed Lightweight title will take place soon.

Ferguson might go down as one of the greatest UFC stars of all time. However, he might never have the Lightweight title to celebrate.
