Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson seem to have buried the hatchet for now
Tony Ferguson had some great words for UFC Lightweight rival Khabib Nurmagomedov on Twitter.
This all started with Khabib first posting about Ferguson after the UFC 249 fight. Ferguson was defeated in dominant fashion by Justin Gaethje, who won the interim Lightweight title.
This could have been the end of Ferguson’s Lightweight title dreams as Gaethje will battle Khabib next.
Khabib has had his own problems in recent weeks. He is stuck in Russia and could not defend the Lightweight crown against Ferguson at UFC 249, and now, his father is also in a coma.
However, Khabib shared a sweet message on Twitter about how proud Ferguson’s family should be:
“Whatever happened is in the past. Heads up Tony, I hope everything is good with you and your family. When your son grow up, he’ll be proud with you.”
Ferguson was also quick to respond and asked about Khabib’s side too:
“Respect” @TeamKhabib You Still Owe Me 20 Pushups. Glad Your Pops Is Doing Better. I’ll See You Soon Kid, Keep Training For The Real Finale. -Champ”
What next for Ferguson?
Khabib vs Gaethje should be an incredible fight and Dana White has suggested it will take place soon.
The Russian will be back in action after a few months as he is observing the holy month of Ramadan. Gaethje, for his part, has held the Lightweight title in another promotion and he was excellent against Ferguson.
El Cucuy, as Ferguson is known, has a lot of soul searching to do. He might never get a shot at the UFC Lightweight title again, and this was a huge beating.
There was a lot of respect between Gaethje and Ferguson after their clash. And it will be interesting to see who Ferguson could fight next.
The American was on a 12-fight win streak before this, but he seemed a bit shattered after this result.
