Tony Ferguson takes on Beneil Dariush in the co-main event of UFC 262
All eyes will be on the experienced and ageing Ferguson as he takes on the indurated Beneil Dariush at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
Ferguson will be looking forward to getting back on the lightweight stairway after falling off it over the last couple of years.
He’s changed his diet, got a new boxing coach in Freddie Roach, been working his socks off since his loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 256; he’s basically done everything he could to make his career fall back in place.
Ferguson has put in the hard yards, and now only the final mission awaits. He needs to see off the tough Iranian, who has not been breached in several years.
Speaking to Helen Yee in an interview, Ferguson was asked where he would rank Dariush’s skillset amongst the opponents he’s fought.
‘El Cucuy’ gave ‘El Cucuy’-est of replies, saying:
“I am imagining he is the biggest giant in the world right now. I’m imagining, he’s Goliath, I’m David. I have to go out there and hit this dude with a couple of stones.”
Ferguson might be 37-years old, boast a stupendous 25-5 record, but he still remains grateful to his old coaches.
Ferguson was a part of The Ultimate Fighter season 13 in 2010. He fought under Team Lesnar (Brock). In fact Ferguson went on to become the winner of TUF 13.
At the pre-fight presser he revealed that he has been in touch with his TUF coaches. He quoted Lesnar’s famous chicken sh*t reference, and revealed that he had recently hit up the former heavyweight champion.
‘El Cucuy’ also revealed that he recently contacted coaches Marty Morgan, Greg Nelson and Erik Paulson.
