Tony Ferguson still dreams of mega fight in 2021 despite two huge losses

Tony Ferguson isn’t stopping his MMA career and wants to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2021

2020 didn’t end well for former UFC Lightweight interim champion Tony Ferguson. Although he accepted a short-notice fight against Charles Oliveira in the final event of the year, it was the Brazilian who came out on top.

Ferguson was decimated across the three rounds and he just didn’t seem right. He did show off his mental and physical toughness but not submitting to a vicious armbar but that was about it for Ferguson in this fight.

El Cucuy highlighted that he and his arm were fine after the fight and that he made a few mistakes along the way. However, he cut short of any talk revolving around him retiring from MMA.

This was his second successive loss in his MMA career, the first time such a feat has happened, but El Cucuy is ready for more in 2021.

Time for Khabib

Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson have been stated to meet five times in the UFC. However, the pair are yet to face off as something or another pops up ahead of their fights.

This curse struck again in UFC 249 but Ferguson wants a crack at the champion. Chamatkar Sandhu, a reputed WWE and MMA journalist , wanted to know which fight people wanted to see in 2021.

Ferguson was quick to respond and used a GIF from one of the press conferences where he was to fight Khabib:

While Khabib vs Ferguson would be a great fight, it is unlikely it will ever take place. Khabib retired after defeated Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 and even if he was to return, he would end up fighting either Georges St-Pierre or some top contender.

Had Ferguson defeated Oliveira, he would have been in the running for a shot at Khabib. However, it is Oliveira who is in the best seat for a title shot but the winner of Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier might also have a word about this.
