Tony Ferguson vs Dustin Poirier was cancelled after the UFC weren’t willing to pay the Diamond his dues

Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson has come out in support of Dustin Poirier after their fight was cancelled.

The pair were to meet soon but Poirier recently posted that the clash was off. The Diamond added that he couldn’t come to terms with the UFC and this was pay related.

Poirier is one of the bigger names in the promotion but the UFC has had problems with paying their stars.

The Diamond is also a former Interim Lightweight Champion and is coming off a brilliant win over Dan Hooker.

Support had been flowing in from all corners for Poirier regarding his decision to pull out. However, he even got support from his rival, Ferguson:

Ferguson is one of the most vocal UFC stars around, however, El Cucuy seems to have hit a home run with this.

Poirier praises Ferguson in the best way

It isn’t normal for one UFC rival to back another, especially ahead of a possible fight. However, Ferguson certainly did so and Poirier was also impressed by his rival.

The Diamond retweeted this post from Ferguson and shared one of the greatest tweets about how great El Cucuy is:

This brought out several funny comments from other UFC fans, but they all seem to have a soft spot for Ferguson.

Some fans believed that the only way to get Ferguson vs Poirier was to make a sacrifice, and the Diamond agreed.

This isn’t the first fight that seems to be cursed in the UFC though. Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov had been slated to take place at least five times, but some problem or another has cropped up.

The pair have never met in the UFC and it seems unlikely they ever will. White has suggested that he is looking at another fighter for Ferguson, but it will be interesting to see if Poirier can still make it happen.
