Reyes Cortez tried his best to get into the UFC and his sister, Tracy had some words of encouragement for him
It was a huge family affair at the latest episode of Dana White’s Contender Series with UFC star Tracy Cortez cheering on her brother, Reyes.
Tracy is now one of the rising stars in the UFC but she was hoping her brother could also get in on the act.
Reyes was up against Payton Talbott, who came into this fight undefeated in his career. Cortez’s brother, for his part, was 6-2 and was coming off the back of a win over Elijah Smith.
Tracy was also in the arena as she was pushing her brother for the win. However, things didn’t do as planned in the end.
Reyes, the older brother of Tracy, ended up losing the three-round fight via unanimous decision. Tracy, however, had some great words for her brother as she posted a picture on Twitter after the fight.
It seems that Reyes suffered a hand injury as well in the fight since it was iced up. Reyes now is 7-2 in his MMA career and unfortunately, he didn’t get a contract from Dana White after the fight.
Normally, the UFC president only hands out contracts for spectacular finishes in this series. He is looking for people who are hungry and can provide entertainment.
This time, White decided to hand out contracts to all the five winners from the five fights on the card. There were four decision wins on the card and that was not a guarantee of a contract.
However, White handed contracts to all the four decision winners Caio Machado, Kevin Borjas, Cesar Almeida and Talbott.
The only fighter to get a stoppage was Australia’s Tom Nolan. He was able to knock out his opponent in the first round and got a contract as well.
This series will take place every Tuesday till October 10, and 100 athletes are set to fight it out in hopes of landing a UFC contract.
