‘GSP’ Georges St-Pierre was inducted into the modern wing of the UFC Hall of Fame recently
Former UFC fighter and welterweight king Georges ‘Rush’ St-Pierre was inducted into the modern wing of the UFC Hall of Fame on the 23rd of September.
The event took place at the Park MGM in Park Theater. It began at 7:30 pm and saw several Hall of Fame awards being handed out – the most notable one being Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson 1 being inducted into the fight wing.
A suited-up GSP accepted his induction with grace, and went on to thank his beloved fans for all the support they have been showing him.
The Twitterati were quick to laud GSP on his UFC Hall of Fame Induction. Many journalists, notably fellow Canadian Ariel Helwani, were elated.
Here are a few Twitter reactions:
Georges St-Pierre made his MMA debut on the 25th of January, 2002 and joined the UFC after going 5-0 up in his MMA career.
At UFC 50, GSP suffered his first defeat in his career, against Matt Hughes. He went on to win the welterweight championship 2 years after his defeat against Hughes (in a rematch).
He lost his title in the very next fight, before getting hold of it once again against the opponent who (Matt Serra) defeated him.
GSP never lost after that fight, and defended his title 9 times, with 14 straight wins in the UFC. His last fight was against Michael Bisping in 2017, which also saw him win the middleweight title.
Struggle with ulcerative colitis curtailed his career.
