Alistair Overeem was excellent in the final round to defeat Augusto Sakai

Augusto Sakai and Alistair Overeem put on quite a show in the main event of the latest UFC Fight Night.

The match-up saw the fast-rising Sakai take on an MMA veteran in Overeem. While Sakai could have been the slight favourite coming into it, it was Overeem who got the win in the end.

This was a truncated card as several fights were cancelled at the last minute with some fighters catching the coronavirus too.

The main event was a bruising affair with Sakai winning the first two rounds. Overeem made a comeback in the next two and the final round was all his.

He hammered at his rival with some tough blows and got the win via TKO. This was Overeem’s 47th win in professional MMA and the 40-year-old seems to be in great shape despite the age.

This was Sakai’s first loss in the UFC and snapped a six-fight win streak for the 29-year-old. His face was certainly beaten up and bruised after this clash but the 29-year-old will come back stronger.

Overeem ready for another title shot?

Sakai did suffer a lot of injuries to the face but Overeem was quick to console his opponent after the loss.

The 40-year-old has won titles in every promotion he has fought in except the UFC. He had one title shot against Stipe Miocic in 2016 but after losing that he hasn’t been close to the crown.

However, this was Overeem’s second straight win in the UFC and he might have one more title run in him.

Miocic needs a new rival after dispatching Daniel Cormier, and it will be interesting to see if Reem gets another crack at it.

Many UFC fans wanted him to get another shot at the title, and here are some of their reactions:
