Gerald Meerschaert came with a lot of confidence against Khamzat Chimaev but was knocked out in 17 seconds
American UFC star Gerald Meerschaert spoke a lot before his fight against Khamzat Chimaev and promised to destroy the Swede.
Meerschaert was supposed to be the real test for Chimaev as the Swede had won his first two fights easily. The American had taken several shots at the Swede on social media, but that fight went in another direction.
Chimaev started the clash on the front foot and his first punch knocked Meerschaert out. The referee stopped the fight after 17 seconds but Meerschaert seemed to be out after around 10 only.
Chimaev continued his incredible start to his MMA career and is now 9-0. He has won all three of his UFC fights in impressive fashion and should face Demian Maia next.
However, it was a completely different story for Meerschaert. The American came into this clash with a lot of game but he was honest enough to accept things didn’t go his way.
A sense of humour prevails
More often than not, stars make excuses after losing a fight. Some blame the conditions, others blame weight cuts and so on and so forth.
However, Meerschaert didn’t make any such claims. He posted one hilarious update after the loss and it was perfect:
Welp royally f@#$*d that up.

Meerschaert didn’t seem to have a plan for Chimaev and the quickness of the Swede got to him. It was the most ferocious punch ever, but the speed and the timing seemed to catch Meerschaert off guard.
Nevertheless, the American was honest enough to share how things didn’t go right for him. Chimaev is a star now and seems set for a great run in the UFC.
That might not be the same for Meerschaert but many UFC fans backed the American to come back stronger than ever.
