Frankie Edgar and Pedro Munhoz last the distance in the latest UFC event

Frankie Edgar and Pedro Munhoz put on a show in the main event of the latest UFC card.

The pair were to meet at UFC 251 but Covid-19 and the UFC decided to push the event a little later on and gave it their own main event.

That seems like a great decision now as both stars battled hard and had scars after this clash. It was Edgar who got the split decision win in the end but both had blood spewing from their faces after a tough night out.

This was also Edgar’s Bantamweight debut and the fight won the Fight of the Night award. Edgar might be 38 but he wanted to prove a point.

He was speaking to Jon Anik after the clash and highlighted that he loved proving people wrong:

“I heard a lot of mother******* barking that I’m old, that I’m slow. It’s nice to prove them wrong, I showed I can compete with the best at 38.”

Respect after a hard-fought battle

As the results were shared, both stars felt they had a real chance of winning the fight. Edgar got the decision in his favour and the pair shook hands to highlight the respect they had for each other.

Edgar certainly needed a win and he snapped a two-fight losing streak. While Munhoz is now on a two-fight losing streak.

The Bantamweight division is stacked with talent and it will be interesting to see where Edgar positions himself in all this.

He could be a future contender for the title but at 38, he doesn’t have too many years left in his prime.

The UFC world was left split regarding this fight. Some suggested that Munhoz should have picked up the win while others claimed this was the right result.

There was some controversy too with the scoring as many pointed out that the judges didn’t seem to get things right, as in several fights recently.
