Tyron Woodley believes Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3 could be for UFC gold

Ever since Conor McGregor got beaten by Dustin Poirier at UFC 257, he has spoken of his desire to complete a trilogy with ‘The Diamond’.

And last week, Poirier even responded to the rumours and said that a third fight might well and truly be on.

Many believe that if the fight does take place, it should not be for the lightweight belt. And rightly so.

The Irishman got beaten in emphatic fashion, and it is impossible to ignore the likes of Charles Oliveira, who is tearing the division apart.

Addressing this debate was former UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, as he spoke on The Schmo on YouTube earlier this week.

Woodley says that the third fight between Poirier and McGregor should be for UFC gold. Now, this is something a lot of fans would not agree with, but he is not entirely wrong.

“They probably should let Dustin and Conor fight for the belt. Charles Oliveira is dope, but he has had his bumps, his highs and his lows… We’re talking about money, let’s be real… We’re talking about who is going to put the money up.”

Should Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3 be for the title?

Woodley actually thinks that the fight between the American and the Irishman was closer than some people think it was.

He puts it down to just one kick that knocked McGregor off balance, and he said that McGregor was fighting very well right up until then.

Woodley does make sense when it comes to talking about which fight will make the most money. However, this situation would be brutally unfair for Charles Oliveira.

It might even jeopardize the legitimacy of the division because there is simply nothing more Oliveira can do to be in the conversation for a shot at the belt.

However, money talks and any fight with McGregor on the card ensures a huge pay day for the UFC in terms of PPV sales.
