Conor McGregor is considered by many to be one of the greatest trash talkers in UFC history
During the mid-2010s, Conor McGregor single-handedly carried the UFC. There is a reason why he is known as the ‘Face of the Fight Game.’
With his thick Irish accent and beyond-impressive mic skills, ‘The Notorious’ had a habit of getting into his opponents’ heads before the fight.
A majority of times, it was already a win for McGregor, even before the fight began. It was very evident during his first fight against Dustin Poirier back in September 2014, at UFC 178.
Elsewhere, former UFC welterweight Tyron Woodley spoke to Submission Radio, and gave his view on McGregor’s trash-talking abilities.
While Woodley did acknowledge the fact that McGregor “is one of the greatest trash-talkers in the UFC, he placed him at a distant second behind former UFC light-heavyweight and current analyst Chael Sonnen.
Comparing McGregor and Sonnen, Woodley said:
“He [McGregor] had a way of getting underneath their skin in a way that we had never seen before, outside of Chael Sonnen. Chael Sonnen is the best. He’s a better mouthpiece than Conor. He was smarter with it. He was more entertaining, super sharp. He’s the best that I’ve ever seen, Conor would be a distant second.”
When Chael Sonnen verbally murdered Tito Ortiz
Chael Sonnen faced Tito Ortiz at Bellator 170, back in January 2017. During the pre-fight presser Sonnen brutally insulted Ortiz bringing up his high-profile relationship with former pornstar Jenna Jameson.
Sonnen said at the pre-fight presser:
“Tito always says I’m using my mouth to get my opportunities. The only person that I know that made money using their mouth is his ex-wife.”
However, Uncle Chael would go on to lose the fight via. submission in the very first round. Backing up his trash-talk is where Sonnen failed, quite often.
