Conor McGregor was miles ahead of others in the UFC 264 payout
UFC 264 came to an end on the 10th of July. The event was a massive hit, simply because it featured Conor McGregor on the card.
The Irishman took on Dustin Poirier in a trilogy bout which was the headliner event. Unfortunately, he suffered a terrible ankle injury at the end of the first round, which resulted in the fight being awarded to Poirier via. TKO due to a doctor stoppage.
In the co-main event Stephen Thompson was defeated by Gilbert Burns. Tai Tuivasa made light work of Greg Hardy in a heavyweight bout, while Irene Aldana beat Yana Kunitskaya in the only women’s bout in the main card.
Sean O’Malley and Kris Moutinho put on a show for the fans, as O’Malley won the fight via. TKO in the final round.
There were a few good bouts in the prelims card as well. Carlos Condit and Max Griffin went the entire three rounds. Griffin won the fight via. unanimous decision.
The event sold 1.8 million PPV buys worldwide, which meant that McGregor has now featured in all five top PPV buys of all time in the history of the promotion.
Conor McGregor took home a whopping $5,011,000 despite losing the fight to Poirier. Poirier, on the other hand, made $1,021,000, almost one-fifth of what McGregor made. Fighter purse wise, this is the highest McGregor has earned in his UFC career.
The rest of the fighters came nowhere close to what McGregor and Poirier made. In the co-main event which saw Gilbert Burns beat Stephen Thompson, The Brazilian took home $221,000, while Thompson went home with $156,000.
Both Tai Tuivasa and Sean O’Malley made $221,000 for their knockout victories. It is worth noting that O’Malley won the Fight of the Night Bonus, which earned him $75,000. Tuivasa won the Performance of the Night Bonus, which got him $75,000 as well.
Greg Hardy and Kris Moutinho, both of whom suffered knockout losses against Tai Tuivasa and O’Malley respectively took home $106,000 and $89,000 each.
Yana Kunitskaya, despite suffering a loss, got a bonus since her opponent Irene Aldana missed weight. Kunitskaya took home $62,600 ($12,600 from Aldan’s purse). Aldana, meanwhile made $77,400 instead of her actual $90,000.
Carlos Condit and Max Griffin made $171,000 and $111,000. Condit made a significantly higher amount than Griffin solely because of his experience. He has been a part of the UFC since 2009, a staggering 12 years.
The fighter purse does not include the PPV bonuses, which is applicable to fighters who bring value to the events.
It is believed that McGregor made an astonishing $23 million including the PPV bonuses, $18 million more than his fighter purse. Poirier, made $5.1 million, which is almost 5 times the amount of his pay of $1,021,000.
Gilbert Burns’ total earnings for the night was $256,000 while for Thompson it was $166,000.
O’Malley is believed to have made $256,000 for his win over Kris Moutinho, who earned $95,000.
