Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal have been tipped to fight in the future
UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman is open to facing Jorge Masvidal later in the year.
The 32-year-old won the title from Tyron Woodley at UFC 235 and then defended the crown against Colby Covington at UFC 245.
Masvidal and Usman had a bit of a flare-up at the recent Super Bowl and the Nigerian shared some details about the possible fight.
He was speaking with CBS Sports and was asked if the Masvidal fight would be the biggest of the summer:
“I think so, if it does happen, I think it’s the biggest fight of the year by far.”
Usman has been called as a grappler in the past. However, the champion was keen to highlight that he is a great fighter all around:
“I do everything at a high level. That’s what I think a lot of guys misconstrue. I think it’s absurd that guys still label me as a grappler.”
Masvidal has been talking up this clash for some months, and it seems the BMF champion is ready for his next big fight.
Usman also didn’t want to say anything controversial ahead of his fights and claimed he wanted to be the same kind of person and stick to his virtues.
A big battle for both men
Usman has been excellent in the UFC and for all his critics, he is the champion and deserves respect.
Masvidal, for his part, is one of the most dangerous men on the planet. The 35-year-old has a 35-13 record in his MMA career and recently defeated Nate Diaz to win the BMF title.
Masvidal is a tough opponent for anyone and has been on the MMA scene for several years.
He seems ready to pick up the Welterweight title and Usman has to be wary of the threat from the BMF champion.
