Ryan Benoit struggled to stand during the weigh-ins and the UFC Vegas 26 fight was eventually cancelled
Just a few weeks after Julia Stoliarenko fainted on the scales ahead of her UFC fight, all eyes were firmly at the organisation, again.
This time, it was Ryan Benoit who had his problems with the weigh-ins. He was to fight Zarrukh Adashev at UFC Vegas 26 but had a lot of trouble making weight.
Amy Kaplan was present as the 31-year-old American needed a lot of help in trying to step onto the scales.
Benoit could barely stand and needed some support from his team but he failed to make weight. Stoliarenko, for her part, had fainted and needed a lot of medical help and Benoit needed some help too.
This was bad enough but the Benoit’s team tried to do the weigh-in for a second time and he failed to make weight then too.
The fight was eventually cancelled and the UFC star was transported to a hospital after all this.
Ryan Benoit update after missing weight at UFC Vegas 26
This was a worrying event at the weigh-in but Ariel Helwani posted a more positive update on this.
The ESPN reported had spoken with Benoit’s management and brought up that the fighter was released from the hospital and was to fly home.
As expected, many fans were upset over this and the issue of weight cuts was brought up again. The UFC does weigh-ins a day or two before the event but the fighters go through aggressive weight cutting techniques.
There have been stories of stars being over 10 pounds above the weight limit but they cut it and then regain that weight over the next 24 hours or so.
Dustin Poirier has spoken about his struggles with weight during his early days in the UFC while Amanda Ribas also suggested she was way over the weigh-limit during one of her fights.
Such weight cutting could become disastrous for some one in the future.
