Henry Cejudo recently retired from UFC after defeating Dominick Cruz
UFC star Urijah Faber had some advice for the recently retired Henry Cejudo.
Cejudo defeated Dominick Cruz and defended the Bantamweight title. However, Triple C immediately retired from the business claiming he had achieved a lot and was thinking about his family.
Cejudo is also an Olympic gold medallist and has earned a lot during his time. The 33-year-old Cejudo still has a few quality years left in him, something that Faber told Helen Yee:
“I’ll give him some advice.
“He’s one of the most accomplished guys out there, which is awesome, but you know this game is about longevity.
“The more somebody hears your name, the more recognizable you are. That’s when you get to demand those dollars. It’s not just being about a great fighter, there’s a lot of great fighters that haven’t reached the pinnacle of success when it comes to money and fame and fortune and everything.”
Negotiating for a better contract?
Some corners have suggested that Cejudo is using his retirement as a tactic for a better contract.
He has created this aura of being the best MMA fighter there is, something that his manager and even Khabib Nurmagomedov have said.
Faber spoke about this move too and hoped this was a good move:
“Hopefully it’s a good negotiating move and they and they compensate a guy that’s a world champion two times over in our sport two different weight class against some of the best fighters ever.”
Faber hoped that the UFC would see the worth in Cejudo and “feed” the guy before he became big. Faber is 41 and recently fought in 2019, so Cejudo could continue doing his bit for a couple of years at least.
He has been dominant since coming to the UFC and transitioning from Olympic wrestling to the MMA has been seamless for Triple C.
There hasn’t been much said from Cejudo’s camp after UFC 249. Hopefully, he doesn’t walk away now and returns to the Octagon soon.
